Realistic Art: A Showcase for Painters and Jewelry Designers Artist of the Month
Featured Artist of the Month November 2014
Helene Lynn Gonen
Contrasting textures and vibrant colors are the primary characteristics of Helene Lynn Gonen's work. Using recycled plastic bottles as her raw material, through aggressive manipulation, she transforms them into uniquely distinctive looking and richly textured creations. In her own words, "the plastic pieces are all made from beverage bottles (Coke, Sprite, mineral water, etc.). I cut them into shapes, mold them over a flame, pierce them with a soldering iron, then paint with nail varnish or acrylic paints.
Now I am experimenting with eggshells..."
Her earrings created from recycled plastic bottles embody a delicate, organic quality, and remind me of ephemeral, transparent forms that I've seen floating in the sea. And the transparent cup like objects shown in image 5 are fascinating in their subtle colors with the interplay of textural contrasts established between the smooth plastic and burned holes. In the pair of earrings combining egg shell mosaics with spiral, wire wrapped forms, Lynn achieves an elegant and harmonious integration of elements. Fun is the only way I can describe her green Beach Purse; it's color, simplicity, texture and utilitarian purpose make it absolutely fun to look at!
I hope everyone enjoys viewing the selections of Lynn's work that we have presented here.
